Coach Joseph Colletti - Varsity Coach
Coach Joseph Colletti graduated from Paradise Valley HS in Phoenix. Coach played Basketball and competed in Track&Field in HS. Coach competed in T&F at Paradise Valley CC in 2003. He began coaching in 2004 and has coached for 18 years. Coach graduated from Arizona State with a BA in Education ('06), holds a MA in Theology ('13), and an MA in Educational Leadership ('21). He has a passion for creating servant leaders who impact the world for others.
Under Coach Colletti, Willow Canyon's program has been on a steady climb (75-46 record).
In '20-21, the Wildcats posted the best win% in school history on way to an ELITE EIGHT appearance for the first time in school history. Coach has helped get the Wildcats to 1st place
the last 2 years in the 5A CENTRAL Region. Those who want to play beyond HS will have that opportunity if they commit to the process - since 2017, SEVEN (7) Wildcats have gone on to compete at the collegiate level in athletics. Coach Colletti was voted Region Coach of the Year (2021) and a FINALIST for AZ Republic's Coach of the Year (2021)
Coach Colletti spends most of his time away from WC with his wife & two daughters who are both active in Club Soccer.

Coach Jay Hayes - Assistant Coach
Coach Hayes graduated from Laurel High School in Mississippi. He played Varsity Basketball and still holds the record for 3pt FG made in a game (10). Coach then played college basketball for Xavier University of New Orleans (NAIA) and Clarke University in Iowa where he ranks in the top 10 on the all time scoring list. Coach Hayes then started his high school coaching career as a varsity assistant at Thunderbird High School in 1999. In his 18 years there, Thunderbird won 4 region championships and the schools only state championship in 2003.
Away from the gym, he enjoys spending time with his wife and watching his two boys play sports. His oldest graduated playing 3 years of Varsity basketball and he joined the staff in 2019. His youngest currently plays club basketball for AZ Unity and is a highly rated player in the 2028 class.

Coach Davion Scott - Assistant Coach
Davion Scott, originally from St. Louis, Mo played his prep basketball at Parkway West. Coach Scott was a highly regarded PG in that area and made an impact on his way to playing NAIA basketball at William Penn University. Coach teaches at Canyon Ridge and has been coaching for 6 years. His work ethic is contagious and helped elevate our JV team in 2021-22 to the first undefeated season in school history. Coach Scott is an incredible skill teacher and passionate about his players. We are thankful for him! Coach spends his free time with his wife and daughter. He is working to better the community through the game of basketball. Coach is also the lead trainer and coach for our developmental youth team with WBA

Coach Chuck Hyppa - Assistant / Mental Coach
Chuck Hyppa, originally from eastern Washington played multiple sports in high school and was a D1 Golfer at Washington University. Coach Hyppa is a golf professional in the West Valley with a heart for enhancing the mental aspect of sports. Coach is a public speaker who focuses on using life's adversity to build resilient and strong minded individuals. We are honored to have Coach Hyppa on our staff for the 2022-23 season as he will bring an edge to our Leadership Training and help our players handle all that life throws at them. Coach will also be managing our defensive rebounding and helping to elevate our program. Coach has 2 daughters who play volleyball locally as well. Coach spends his free time with his wife and daughters girls as family is very important to him.

Coach Cris Escobar - Assistant Coach
Coach "Esco" is back after taking a short break from our staff to help us build skilled perimeter players. Coach has been at all levels of our program as a head frosh coach, assistant JV and Varsity coach as well as helped run our Youth Academy. Coach is a devoted husband with 3 sons - 2 adult and one still in high school at Liberty HS. Esco has trained players who have gone on to successful youth, high school, collegiate and professional careers through his 12+ years as a skills coach. We are excited to have coach on staff with us!
